Top ‘Life’ fund-raisers

The Pellissippi State Technical Community College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa national honor society has been named the Top Community Team Fund-raiser for this summer’s Knoxville Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an American Cancer Society fundraiser. The annual event took place June 17, at World’s Fair Park, and Pellissippi State team members raised $2,203 in support of either the team or individuals on the team. In all, 24 teams took part in event from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during which at least one team member had to be walking on the course at all times. Eleven members of Phi Theta Kappa participated, headed by co-captains Cheryl Miller and Danielle Ozdych and chapter president Karen Quammen. Others involved were chapter historian Stefani Thurman, vice president of fellowship Michelle Kelley, public relations coordinator Tara Ptacek and Stephanie Roy, Jennifer Cline, Russell Sites and Richard Metcalf. PTK advisor Carol O’Farrell also participated. This year’s Knoxville Relay for Life raised $72,000. For more information on Pellissippi State, visit the Web site at www.pstcc.edu.
