• Knox County Council Parent Teacher Association announced today Bill Williams, former co-anchor of Action 10 Newss, will serve as the 2005 Honorary PTA Membership Chairman. Williams asks for community support of the PTA and encourages everyone to join a local unit of the PTA/PTSA as the 82nd annual membership drive gets underway in Knox County. • Several private colleges and universities in Tennessee have opened their doors to students who were shut out of higher education this fall due to Hurricane Katrina, according to the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association. For the immediate future, displaced students will be able to attend several of TICUA’s member colleges, including Aquinas College, Belmont University, Bryan College, Crichton College, Fisk University, Free Will Baptist Bible College, Lipscomb University, Rhodes College, Trevecca Nazarene University, Union University and Vanderbilt University. •"Lung Cancer: What You Need to Know," is the topic of an upcoming educational program presented by the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The program is scheduled for 11:45 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Rothchild Conference Center, 8807 Kingston Pike. Cost for this lunch program is $5 per person.
