Strong end-of-week finish for Farragut volleyball
Lady Ads No. 2 in Webb tourney

While the Farragut High School volleyball team finished strong last week, at least three individual Lady Ads had memorable performances statistically.

Following a huge sweep of District 4-AAA rivals Maryville and Heritage Thursday, Sept. 15, the Lady Admirals avenged a Sept. 12 loss to Oak Ridge as part of a five-victory run in the Lady Spartan Tournament at Webb School Saturday, finishing second to the host Lady Spartans in the 12-team tourney.

Farragut defeated Powell and Alcoa in pool play Saturday along with Morristown West before beating ORHS in straight games — avenging a straight game match loss five days before — then beat the MHS Lady Rebels for the second time in two days.

Along with victories against arch-rival Bearden and South-Doyle Tuesday, Sept. 13, the Lady Ads enter the week with a 28-7 overall record, 4-0 in the district.

"Thursday night was a huge night for us," Moore said of the MHS-Heritage sweep, both matches going the full five games. "The Maryville game was a huge win for us [15-1 in the deciding game]."

Individually, "Jenny Loveday set a school record," Moore said of his only senior’s 38 consecutive serves without a fault and 30 service points against Maryville, breaking the school record of 23 in a match. "She kinda anihiliated the record.

"Kelsey [Benorden, outside hitter] had another good week, and I thought Amanda Mitchell [middle hitter] played extremely well against Maryville," Moore added of Mitchell’s 14 kills and eight blocks versus MHS.

Against Heritage, Moore said Lindsey West had 93 sets and 22 assists. "That’s a bunch of sets in a match, especially when you’ve got two setters," the coach said.

As for the overall picture, "I’m pleased where we’re at, but we’ve just got to continue to get better every time we walk out there," Moore said.
