Three VolleyDog wins, one key injury

The Bearden VolleyDogs played five games in the Lady Spartan Tournament hosted by Webb School of Knoxville, winning three of them to highlight last week.

BHS beat Christian Academy of Knoxville twice and Grace Christian Academy once.

"We started off really slow and lost to Halls which ended up tying us with Halls in our pool and we went down to the consolation tournament and we won that," BHS head coach Jennifer Allen said.

The VolleyDogs finished a busy week to make its overall record 14-10 on the season entering the week.

In the week, BHS suffered an injury to junior Rachel Menhinick "That was a big blow to us (knee injury) probably best scenario is two to three weeks[out]," Allen said.

The VolleyDogs lost to Heritage 26-15, 27-25, 28-26 and Maryville 27-25, 33-31, 25-23 Thursday, Sept. 15.

In the Heritage game, the VolleyDogs received nine points and three digs from Caroline Shaffer and eight kills, three blocks, four points and an ace from Briana Rittenhouse.

Against Maryville, Brittany Basham had 11 points and 16 assists and Caroline Winstel added two points along with 11 kills.

On Tuesday Sept. 13, at FHS Bearden beat Sevier County but lost to FHS in the doubleheader.

Against Sevier County, BHS won 28-26, 25-15, 18-25, 25-19. Lindsay Granger had 11 points and four kills and Rittenhouse had 15 kills, two blocks and seven points.

FHS won 25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-15. Basham had 13 points and 15 assists and Winstel added six points for BHS.

On Monday, Sept. 12, at Halls High School, the Volleydogs defeated Halls 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23.

Jill Underwood had 12 kills and two blocks while Winstel had 16 kills along with six points and an ace.
