Farragut band takes Class A championship

Farragut High School Marching Band was named Class A Champions with superior ratings performing “Elements of Intrigue” in the 25th annual 2005 Volunteer Classic Band Competition and Festival Saturday, Oct. 8, at Heritage High School in Maryville. The band competed against Oak Ridge and Powell marching bands, which also received superior ratings. FHS band director Ron Rogers said, “It feels great. You’re always glad for a great performance against other fine bands.” Rogers added that while the win was flattering to the FHS band, it was “simply the opinion of the judges.” Rogers said that each band played well, but the judges deemed Farragut at a level “a little bit more superior.” Rogers added the band will analyze video tapes and judges’ comments this week; the band director has already decided on a few changes to focus on for its upcoming competition at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Saturday, Oct. 15.

Ultimately, Rogers said, while it is nice to win, the band really competes against itself at each competition.
