Bruegger’s bakery-café may find niche at Turkey Creek

Turkey Creek is a possible location for a Bruegger’s fresh bakery-café coming soon to East Tennessee.

Bruegger’s Enterprises Inc. signed an agreement with Irish Luck Ventures, LLC to develop three bakeries over the next three years. The first bakery is set to open April 2006.

The Irish Luck Ventures franchise group, led by principal Christine Taylor, holds an agreement to be the exclusive developer in the Knoxville market. Bruegger’s currently operates corporate and franchise bakery-cafés in Nashville and western North Carolina.

Taylor said she is still looking at possible locations and cannot say definitively where the first, second or third location will be, but she is considering Turkey Creek, Northshore Drive, Hardin Valley, Bearden, near the University of Tennessee campus and North Knoxville locations.

“Expanding into Knoxville is a logical step for continuing our growth in the southeast,” James Greco, Bruegger’s CEO, said. “Christine’s first hand knowledge of the Knoxville region and the enthusiasm that she brings to the table will make her a valuable asset to our franchise team. She will play an integral part in expanding the Bruegger’s experience.”

Taylor added there is a gap in this market in regards to bagels, which is what secured her interest in becoming a franchisee.

“Bruegger’s produces an extremely high-quality product, which is what drew me to become a franchisee,” Taylor said. “The market is wide open in Knoxville, which is growing and experiencing an influx of people from other parts of the country. Bruegger’s has great brand recognition in Nashville and our neighboring state North Carolina. The timing for developing in this market is perfect.”

Bruegger’s has authentic, boiled and baked bagels that are prepared daily and are made from fresh dough. Most Bruegger’s locations feature viewing areas where customers can see how the authentic bagels are made.

In addition to bagels, Bruegger’s features an expanded menu of dining choices that includes fresh tossed salads, stone hearth breads, sandwiches and unique coffee blends, including a daily Fair Trade blend.
