Allen calls VolleyDog ’05 season ‘pretty solid’

William Blount pulled the plug on the Bearden Volleydogs as the 2005 BHS season was laid to rest after a 1-1 showing in the District 4-AAA Tournament Tuesday, Oct. 11, at WBHS.

The VolleyDogs beat Sevier County in four games but lost to William Blount in four.

Against Sevier County, Lindsay Granger had 24 points, five aces, six digs and five assists. Caroline Winstel had 11 kills, seven points, four digs, two aces and a block. Brittany Basham had 21 assists, five points, three digs and an ace.

In the William Blount match, Winstel had five points, 12 kills and eight digs while Granger added nine points, four digs and two aces.

The VolleyDogs finished the season with a 21-19 overall record. BHS head coach Jennifer Allen is pleased with the way the season went.

"I thought overall we had a pretty solid year," Allen said. "We had a lot of teamwork, the girls worked really well together and worked hard."

With just three seniors on the team this year — Caroline Shaffer, Jill Underwood and Dani Barnes — Allen was pleased with the leadership they exhibited.

"They were role players and they did a really good job," Allen said. "They were good leaders and were willing to do whatever they needed to do."

As for the strength of 4-AAA, Allen said the competition is some of the best around. "We play a really tough district," she said. "We lost nineteen games and eleven of those were to teams in our district."
