ORNL director to keynote Chamber breakfast

The Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce will host its first Breakfas Speaker Series of the year at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday,, Jan. 10, at Fox Den Country Club with Oak Ridge National Laboratory Dr. Jeffrey Wadsworth as guest speaker.

Wadsworth was unavailable for comment concerning his upcoming presentation, but articles on the ORNL Web page provided some information on his background.

Wadsworth became the director of the Oak Ridge facility in August 2003 and holds several advanced degrees in metallurgy from Sheffield University in England. He worked for the Lockheed Missiles and Space Company at the Palo Alto (Calif.) Research Laboratory. Prior to coming to Oak Ridge, he served as deputy director for science and technology at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, according to the ORNL Web page.

“We’re excited to have Dr. Wadsworth as our speaker,” said Bettye Sisco, president and CEO of the Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber decided a couple of years ago to host a series of breakfast networking events that would allow chamber members to keep abreast of the latest developments in the community, she said.

“We’ve had about twelve of these breakfast series speakers,” Sisco said. “These community leaders help keep members informed about what’s happening in the community.”

The community and chamber members have responded positively to these early morning events, she said.

“We’ve had an excellent response,” Sisco said. “We have a full house every time. People just love hearing from the community about what’s going on.”

Some of the past Speaker Series guest speakers have included: University of Tennessee Men’s Athletic Director Mike Hamilton, UT Women’s Athletic Director Joan Cronan, forensic expert Dr. William “Bill” Bass, Farragut Mayor W. Edward Ford III, Knox County Mayor Michael “Mike“ Ragsdale and Knoxville Mayor William “Bill” Haslam.

Sisco said that arrangements are being made for a return engagement of Bass soon.
