College helps students prepare for technical careers

An Edison Electric Institute test preparation course will be given at Pellissippi State Technical Community College beginning Tuesday, Jan. 31.

The course can help provide students with the skills necessary to pass institute tests that utilities such as the Tennessee Valley Authority use in the job selection process for power plant operations and maintenance training programs.

The 32-hour test preparation course provides refresher training in math, graphs and charts, mechanical concepts, spatial ability and reading comprehension. Test-taking skills also will be covered. After successful completion of the course, eligible students will take the Edison Electrical Institute test.

The preparation course will be given Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-8 p.m., from Jan. 31 through March 23. The course will cost $175, and some home study will be required.

To be accepted into the course, registrants must meet one of the following educational criteria:

• Completed an associate of applied science degree in one of those fields.

• Completed a certified union apprenticeship.

• Completed the Navy Nuclear Power Program.

Other technical criteria might apply.

The course is limited to 25 applicants. A resume´ college transcript and other supporting documentation, if applicable, should be sent to Pellissippi State’s Business and Community Services office, 10915 Hardin Valley Road, Knoxville, TN 37933, no later than Jan. 10.

Those accepted into the course will be notified by Jan. 27.
