‘Impact’ in Florida


At the prestigious pre-New Year’s Orange Classic girls’ soccer tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the 90 Diadora Lady Impact reached the championship game of the Under-16 Green 1 Division, losing 1-0 in overtime to the Cincinnati United Premier White team. The Lady Impact began the tourney by tying CUP White 2-2 before notching wins over the Connecticut Jaguars (3-1), the Michigan Nationals (4-1) and the CA United from Lansing, Mich. (7-0) in a semifinal. Top goal-scorers included Martha Hall and Gretchen Sutch of Knoxville Catholic High School, Morgan Gruenenfelder from Sweetwater, Sara Rochester from Bearden and Kara Chase from Webb School. With the 90 Impact’s coach, Antonio Almeida, home in Brazil for the holidays, Norm Wishart, coach of the 88 Lady Impact, manned the sidelines for the 90s.
