Bouncing back from Heritage, Lady Ads win two

LENOIR CITY — Coming off a tough 41-40 home loss to District 4-AAA power Heritage Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Farragut Lady Admirals breezed past West and Lenoir City to close the week. “We forced a lot of turnovers last night [a 47-27 win against West] and we did in this game, the first half, said FHS head coach Mike Driver, whose team’s record stood at 14-5 overall, 5-2 in the district entering the week.

Against the Lady Mountaineers, Farragut let a 40-35 lead slip away in the final three minutes by missing four key free throws. “We missed some free throws, we missed front ends of one-and-ones, and two others,” Driver said, as FHS ended the game making only four of 12 charity attempts. “We had one turnover and one jump ball that went the other way.”

Senior point guard Beth Raby said, “We’ve been struggling with free throws. We couldn’t score in the last couple of minutes, which really hurt us.”

Raby led Farragut with 18 points, nine in the third quarter.

“I think I was kinda feeling it that night,” Raby said, “but we did a good job as a team that night.” Catelyn Dake scored nine, Rachel Draper six, Stephanie Torrence four and Haley Williams three points.

Katie Brooks (No. 22), who led Heritage with 15 points, scored her team’s final six, including the game-winner with about one minute to play. Karley Stache (No. 30) scored 11 for the Lady Mountaineers, whose record improved to 18-2 overall, 6-0 in the district.

Against Lenoir City in a 48-30 victory, no Lady Ad reached double figures in scoring though 10 players tallied, led by Kiah Simmons and Dake with eight each.

Williams and Draper scored seven followed by Beth Raby, Allison Bosse and C.J. Dake with four and Torrence, Rachel Simmons and Zanetta Mason with two apiece.

In beating West, Catelyn Dake led with 12 points followed by Raby with eight, Torrence six and five each for Draper and Rachel Simmons.
