Ten orchestra students in top slots

Ten orchestra students from Farragut and Bearden high schools placed in the top tier of Tennessee’s string players on Jan. 14 at the All-East Orchestra competition.

FHS’s Eddie Beuhler, cello, Jessica Feng, violin, Jillian Gauld, violin, Jessica Hickerson, viola, Andrew Hooker, bass, James Nance, violin and Alexis Wong, violin were among 69 selected out of 208 who tried out at the South Doyle High School competition.

James Nance was further honored by begin selected for the All-state orchestra and Eddie Beuhler was chosen as an All-state alternate.

BHS’s Hallerin Hill Jr., violin, Cecilia Miller, cello, and Sarah Petty, viola, also placed in the top 69 of the competition.

The accomplished 69 students will go on to the February senior clinic hosted by the East Tennessee Band & Orchestra Association.

They will be in Gatlinburg Feb. 2-4. The top chairs at that clinic will automatically go on to the All-state competition in Nashville in March.

Another stiff competition is the Governor’s School of the Arts in June. Participants will receive college credit and six weeks’ room and board on a college campus.

Students from all over the state compete for seats for 20 violinists, four violists, four cellists and one or two seats for bass players.
