BHS football coach search spans south

Bearden High School’s varsity football head coaching job is sparking interest throughout the southeastern United States.

Lynn Hill, BHS athletic director and assistant principal, said there are “a few dozen” applicants, adding he’s “received interest from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas and Kentucky, and all across the state of Tennessee.”

Hill said he would likely begin the interview process this week.

While saying he’s “not ruling out any applicant at this time,” Hill added he’s “looking at former successful head coaches in large high schools.” Without disclosing the name, Hill said one BHS assistant coach under recently resigned head coach Paul Maynard has applied for the job.

As for the timetable to find the new head coach, “I had once said mid-March, but hopefully by the end of March,” Hill said, adding that “a combination” of BHS administrators will make the decision, including himself and principal Barbara Jenkins.
