Knox praises Grieco’s top tourney effort

Spencer Grieco’s fourth-place finish at last Saturday’s Soddy-Daisy Invitational wrestling tournament brought forth the most enthusiastic reaction from Farragut High School head coach Joe Knox.

“That was huge for him,” Knox said about the 140-pound class Admiral senior, placing in the top four of what Knox said was a “real tough” 17-team field.

Meanwhile, senior Nick Reveiz continues to roll along as TSSAA Division I’s top-ranked wrestler in the 215-pound class. Reveiz, the defending 215 state champ, won the tourney title with a finals round victory against Soddy-Daisy’s Matt Letner, ranked “fourth or fifth” in the state according to Knox.

Junior Shane Reveiz finished third at 189. “He wrestled really well,” Knox said. Shane Reveiz lost a 6-4 semifinal decision to Derrick Walker of Baylor, the top-ranked Division II wrestler in the state.

Despite not placing in the top four, Knox praised sophomore A.J. Farinella for winning “several matches” at 125 while adding the field in that weight class was extremely tough.

Senior heavyweight Brandon Lazarus “did well, he was a match away from placing,” Knox said.
