American Fidelity plans new branch

American Fidelity Bank officials are moving forward with their plans for the construction of a new branch location at 190 Concord Road in Farragut and expect to break ground by March 1.

Lewis Culpepper, a regional executive with American Fidelity Bank, said there would be two buildings on the 1.6-acre location. The branch building will be about 3,600 square feet. The other office building will be GCB Mortgage and about 4,500 square feet.

The Farragut Municipal Planning Commission approved the site plan for the bank during its Jan. 19 regular meeting

“American Fidelity is just another branch of the Greene County Bank,“ Culpepper said. “That’s our parent company and G-C-B is our mortgage company.”

The branch will offer full-service items to customers, such as loans and a variety of financial products. It will have drive-through windows and a drive-up ATM machine.

The mortgage company will also offer consumers a variety of products to fit their needs, he said.

“We chose Farragut to expand our presence in Knoxville,” he said. “We’re also in the process of building another branch on Middlebrook Pike.”

Culpepper said the majority of employees would be recruited from other branches, but would employ people from the local community as well.

“We’ll probably end up hiring three or four people,” he said.

Deidre Williams, a manager with several years banking experience in Farragut, will manage the branch, Culpepper said. Cathy Neubert will be the president of the mortgage company office.

Greene County Bank also conducts separate business through three wholly owned subsidiaries. These companies are Superior Financial Services Inc., GCB Acceptance Corporation and Fairway Title Company. Superior Financial Services Inc. operates 10 consumer finance company offices and a collection office. The GCB Acceptance Corporation operates a sub-prime lending company in Johnson City and the Fairway Title Company operates a title company with locations in Knoxville and Johnson City.
