• The Farragut Leadership Initiative and the Farragut Education Foundation will host a Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce breakfast networking at 8 a.m., Feb. 17, at Farragut High School. The event will include a short presentation, tours around the high school and door prizes.

• The Farragut Chapter of Business Network International, a national business referral organization, meets every Wednesday at Ruby Tuesday’s on Lovell Road from 7:30 to 9 a.m.  For more information, call Aleex Conner at 865-691-6083.

• The Volunteer Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America has named its elected officers for the 2006 Board of Directors. The officers for the board include the following PRSA members: Cheryl Ball, APR, president; Erin McCarty, president-elect; Chelsey Riemann, secretary; and Lorna Norwood, APR, treasurer. Cheryl Ball, APR, 2006 president for the Volunteer chapter of PRSA, is director of marketing and administration for LeBlanc Financial Group. Ball holds a Bachelor of Science degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations from Appalachian State University and earned accreditation in public relations in 1998. President-elect Erin McCarty is the senior marketing and public relations coordinator at Parkwest Medical Center, member of Covenant Health. Chelsey Riemann, Volunteer PRSA secretary, is community relations coordinator for the Town of Farragut. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations from Lipscomb University in Nashville. Lorna Norwood, APR, is serving the final year of her term as Volunteer PRSA treasurer.  With more than 23 years experience in public relations, Norwood serves as deputy director of communications and government relations for Knox County. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from the University of Tennessee and received accreditation in public relations in 2001. Also serving on the 2006 Volunteer Chapter PRSA board are the following: ethics officer—Susan Barnes, APR, University of Tennessee; assembly delegates—Susan Lauver, APR, Tennessee Valley Authority and Donna Creech, APR, Shaw Environmental & Infrastructure; and directors at large—April Moore, University of Tennessee, Nicole Novak, AkinsCrisp Public Strategies and Pete Owens, Dollywood Entertainment Park.

• The University of Tennessee Department of Professional & Personal Development is offering a new course in effectively managing downsizing. Carolyn Clark, senior professional in human resources, will teach this course Friday, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the UT Conference Center, 600 Henley St. This workshop will prepare businesses for both the legal and emotional processes associated with downsizing an organization.
