State wrestling ahead for Reveiz
Defending 215 state champ starts repeat effort today at UTC

ALCOA — He’s unbeaten, he’s in tip-top shape and he’s still hungry, not to mention experienced and confident as defending state champ in the 215-pound weight class.

Farragut senior wrestler Nick Reveiz carries a 30-0 record and lots more to Chattanooga this week to defend his Division I (public school) state crown beginning today.

“I really feel like I’m right where I need to be, I’m going to state seeded number one,” Reveiz said after making easy work of the Region 2 tourney field Saturday, Feb. 11. “It’s a lot of pressure, but I’m glad it’s on me. I feel like the pressure is making me work harder.”

Still hungry? “I want it more than I did last year,” Reveiz said about repeating, “because it’s expected. What’s expected of me, I want to exceed it.”

How has Reveiz improved since last season? “I’m stronger, I’m quicker, I feel like I have more moves I can shoot. I feel a lot more comfortable. ... Like I’ve said before, that goes to my coaches, Joe Knox and Lee Cottrell, they’ve got me where I want to be.

“In December, when I had my tonsils out, I was fat, and those two coaches brought me back together and brought me where I needed to be,” Reveiz added.

State finals are Saturday evening at UTC.
