Shane Reveiz, Farinella, Turner back at state
Bearden, Farragut each have two new wrestling state qualifiers

ALCOA — Among Farragut’s six-wrestler caravan to this week’s TSSAA state tournament in Chattanooga, two seniors are making their first trip.

“Individually, I’d say this is the best I’ve ever done in my life in anything,” said Spencer Grieco, third-place finisher in the 140-pound class during the Region 2 Tournament at Alcoa High School Saturday, Feb. 11. “Including football, I’ve never had this much fun.”

FHS head coach Joe Knox said Grieco “wrestled awesome, he beat a bunch of kids who beat him earlier this year.”

Heavyweight Brandon Lazarus said qualifying for state (finishing in the top four in region) was “my main goal since my sophomore year after I was one match from qualifying.” Lazarus was fourth.

A pair of Bearden Bulldog juniors qualified: Nathan Bevelhimer was fourth at 152 while Andrew Birdwell was fourth at 125.

“It feels amazing, I’ve been working really hard all year,” Bevelhimer said. “I’ve met most of my goals. I’m really happy.”

Birdwell said, “It feels great ... I get up every morning and run with my dad [Todd] and lift weights and train hard at practice, I’ve done all that.”

BHS head coach Jason Andersen also praised the effort of freshman Matt Moore (130), one match away from qualifying.

Admirals Shane Reveiz (third at 189), A.J. Farinella (third at 125) and Daniel Turner (fourth at 119) each make their second straight trip to Chattanooga, which beings today with finals Saturday at UTC.

Defending 215 state champ, senior Nick Reveiz, is making his third state trip (see story above).

Knox also praised the efforts of non-qualifiers Kevin Mann (103) and Lawton Johnson (145).

As a team, FHS finished fifth behind region champ Maryville.
