Farragut JV boys beat BHS, win tourney

A strong second half allowed the Farragut High School junior varsity boys basketball team to avenge its only loss of the season and finish as tournament champs with a 17-1 record.

Having lost to archrival Bearden at BHS earlier in the season, the Admirals got sweet revenge, overcoming a 19-11 first quarter deficit and 30-29 halftime disadvantage to pull away and blast the Bulldogs 60-42 in the tourney title game Friday, Feb. 17, at Halls.

Entering the tourney as the No. 1 seed while averaging 63 points per game and giving up just 39, FHS crushed Karns 82-32 and Central 72-41 earlier in the week to reach the title game.

Tournament most valuable player Jeff Jameson and All-tournament team member Kyle Binder led Farragut. Team members also include Justin Griswold, Chris Carroll, Esean Phillips, Brandon Hylton, Ben Saunders, John Abraham, Riley Hunley, Calvin Brown and Matt Neuhart.

“It was a great year in which the kids defended their freshman championship,” said FHS head coach David Ball. “These eleven kids pulled together and contributed to form an unbelievable team. In the last five games of the season ... their average margin of win was thirty-seven points per game. All in all, they are great kids.”
