Late push sends Admirals into district title game; BHS upset

Reserve junior post Phil Kinney scored 15 points, including a couple of clutch three-point baskets in the fourth quarter, as Farragut slipped past William Blount 63-55 Wednesday, Feb. 22, to punch a ticket to Friday night's District 4-AAA basketball tournament championship game.

With home court advantage in Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium, the No. 3-seed Ads will host No. 4 Maryville in Friday's showdown. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.

The Rebels were an upset winner versus top seed Bearden, the state's No. 6-ranked team (29-4 record), in Wednesday's other semifinal.

Senior wing B.J. Browning added 12 points for Farragut (20-10 record) against WBHS, as the Admirals overcame a 31-29 half deficit to lead 48-43 after three. Zach Onusic scored 11 and Marcus Huie eight for the winners.

FHS reserve senior post Tyler Powell scored eight while playing valuable minutes due to starting post Scott Carroll's early foul problems, picking up three first quarter fouls.

Carroll foulded out with 1:50 left in the fourth quarter, scoring two points. Riley Hunley scored four and Will Akers added three points for the Ads.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs will play No. 2 seed William Blount in Friday's consolation game, which tips off at 6:30 p.m.
