Bearden storms into region title game


SEVIERVILLE -- Behind 34 points from standout senior guard Tony White Jr., the Bearden Bulldogs storm into the Region 2-AAA title game after a 67-52 victory against District 4-AAA tourney champ Maryville in a region semifinal Thursday, March 2, at Sevier County High School.

The Bulldogs, who improve to 32-4 overall after avenging a district tourney semifinal loss to MHS, face District 3-AAA tourney champ Powell in Friday's region final, which begins at 7 p.m.

Win or lose Friday, Bearden earns a Monday night sub-state showdown, with teams and sites depending on Friday's region outcomes that also involve Region 1-AAA.

Rande Sibley added 12 points for BHS, followed by B.J. Ware with nine, Damonte Simpson with seven, two each from Thomas Wiley and Dustin Craig. and Hunt Rosson one.

The Bulldogs saw a 39-25 lead with 4:30 left in the third quarter cut to 44-38 after three. But Maryville got no closer.
