Internship application deadline extended

Linda Bonds, Farragut High School psychologist and organizer of the summer government internship program, has extended the programís 2006 application deadline until March 16.

Students may pick up an application for summer internships in 40 different county, state and federal offices in Knoxville.

Bonds has been placing students with a 3.0 average, or higher, in these internships for many years. About 100 juniors and seniors will be divided into two one-week sessions.

Students will tour the juvenile center and detention center and have lunch at the Foundry Restaurant at the end of the week with Knox County Mayor Michael Ragsdale.

Students may sit in on secret meetings, do a press conference, discuss cases with judges while on a break or go out on the firing range with the sheriff, Bonds said

All of the office-holders donate their time, and the Optimist Club pays for the two luncheons, Bonds said. A $1,000 scholarship is given away to one student each week.
