TDS Telecom hosts customer appreciation day

Farragut residents missed an opportunity Thursday, March 16, to meet an up-and-coming country music star as well as an American Speed Association racecar driver at the TDS Telecom customer appreciation day at Village Green Shopping Center.

TDS Telecom hosted the customer appreciation day as a way to show the community its appreciation, said TDS Telecom General Manager Jerry Parkerson.

The guests included ASA racecar driver Chad Wood and his car as well as Nashville recording artist Gwen Sebastian.

Although the turnout was light, the people that attended were appreciative of the show.

“I think this is pretty great,” said Sebastian Travers of Knoxville. “It’s nice to have a company that goes to this effort for its customers.”

“I think the car’s great,” said Matthew Hansen, 7, of Lenoir City.

Parkerson said even though a lot of people didn’t attend the customer appreciation day, those that did had a good time.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Irene Mills of Farragut. “The music was wonderful.”

“TDS Telecom couldn’t be the strong company it is today without our customers,” Parkerson said. “This party is to honor all our customers.”

He said he wasn’t disappointed with the low turnout.

“I think we didn’t really know what to expect when we did this,” Parkerson said. “We had a couple of things going against us. We had this on a Thursday because that is the only day we could get the car over here. We also had to contend with the Vols basketball game.”

Parkerson said another important part of this event was the efforts of the company to raise money for the Baptist Health System Foundation and Community Benefit.

For every person that brought in an invitation that was included in their bill, TDS donated $1 to the foundation.

“It’s a good cause in our community and we’re glad to be able to support it,” Parkerson said. “It’s just another way for TDS to thank a community for its support.”
