West Valley shows its muscles
Teachers and students vote for best guns

In a beauty contest that featured only the upper arm, Junior Honor Society members at West Valley Middle School raised the total they plan to donate to World Vision to well over $300 last week.

Students and staff paid $3 to have a picture taken of their biceps for Muscle Mania.

Six staff members and about six children in each grade level were chosen to have their muscle pictures displayed anonymously on a poster.

If fellow students thought the picture of the biceps was impressive, they voted for that person by depositing a nickel, dime, quarter or dollar into a corresponding jar.

If the muscle picture left them flat, they could vote against the entrant by putting pennies in the jar.

I think the kids were more nervous about having their pictures taken than we expected, said sponsoring teacher Alicia Davis.

World Vision, an international Christian relief and development organization, was chosen by the NJHS students earlier in the year, Davis said, and they had already given or pledged about $300.
