Koch makes college choice

Julie Koch, a standout stopper/center-midfielder for the Bearden Lady SoccerDawgs, signed National Letter of Intent papers with Limestone College, an NCAA Division II school in Gaston, S.C., during a brief ceremony in the BHS "Pit" Friday, March 3.

"I just felt at home, I love it there," Koch said. "It's pretty close, it's within three hours (of Knoxville). I also have the beach two-and-a-half hours and the mountains twenty minutes away." BHS head coach Eric Turner said Koch "works hard, she always wants to improve, be a great player. I think when she gets in that environment, she's really gonna kinda step it up. I think her competitiveness is gonna come out and she'll be a good fit for them. She’s All-District [4-AAA].” Koch said she'll be a center-midfielder or forward at Limestone. Seated alongside Koch are her mother and father, Pam and Carl Koch. Standing, left to right, are BHS assistant coach Linda Radcliffe, Turner, Leslie Koch, sister, and coach Rex Mummey of Smoky Mountain Soccer Club.
