Lady Ad softballers split first two games

On opening day of the 2006 season, the Farragut Lady Admiral softball team pounded out 12 hits and post a 6-2 victory at Morristown West Monday, March 13.

The next day, Alcoa ace pitcher Brittany Hollifield, a Costal Carolina signee, struck out 29 Lady Ads in 12 innings as Farragut fell at home 2-1 in 12.

Against Morristown East, winning pitcher Margaret Morris carried a no-hitter in to the seventh inning, ending with nine strikeout while allowing just three hits.

Offensively, Cayla Smith led the way with three hits, including a double, with two RBIs.

Morris added a two-run homer, while Jessie Howard and Sarah Young each pounded out two hits.

Against Alcoa, Morris pitched the first eight innings of shutout softball with 14 strikeouts while allowing just two hits.

“She had to leave for a band concert,” FHS head coach David Moore said of Morris giving way.

Losing pitcher Rachel Ingleby struck out five and allowed just one hit in four innings despite giving up a pair of 12th-inning runs.

Smith and Young had the only FHS hits against Hollifield. Howard scored on a throwing error in the 12th to cut the Lady Tornado lead to 2-1, and Farragut had the tying run at third base with one out but couldn’t push her across.

Taking this week off for Spring Break, the FHS girls are back in action Tuesday, March 28, versus Heritage at FHS’s Bellamy Field.
