• The Knoxville Rowing Association is pleased to announce its spring lessons for teaching adults to row. Three intensive weekend sessions are planned as follows: Friday, March 31 to Sunday, April 2; Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30; Friday, May 19 to Sunday, May 21. The schedule for each weekend session is Friday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lessons take place on the Tennessee River near downtown Knoxville and will include instruction on the ergs (rowing machines), safety training and time on the water in boats. All sessions are coached and assisted by experienced members of the KRA. Cost for each session is $125 per person. Space is limited. No previous rowing experience is necessary. • Sailing Club Ship 300 invites young men and women ages 14 to 21 to meet from 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 1, for information on learning to sail and to become a part of Sailing Club Ship 300 at the Concord Yacht Club, located at 11600 Northshore Drive where the sailboats are, approximately one-mile West of Concord Road. Attendees will see the fleet of sailboats, meet members and go for a brief orientation sail, weather permitting. Members learn to sail and maintain a sailboat, race sailboats, learn the “rules of the road” on the water, how to read nautical charts, swimming, and more. Attendees interested in an orientation sail are required to bring an approved lifejacket. In the Ship’s four years of operation, eight members have qualified and competed in international and national competition and seven have enjoyed a weeklong cruise in the Gulf of Mexico. • The annual Farragut High School Football Booster Club Golf Tournament begins at 11 a.m., Friday, April 21, at Landmark at Avalon Golf Club. Dinner and the awards ceremony begins at 5 p.m. Cost to each golfer is $100. For entry fee payment or to make a donation, make checks payable to the FHS Football Booster Club and mail to: FHS Football Golf Tournament, C/O FHS Football Booster Club, P.O. • The Fourth Annual Episcopal School Golf Tournament is Tuesday, April 18, at Landmark at Avalon Golf Club. The tournament is set to begin with registration at 11:30 a.m., lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Play will be a 30-team, four-player scramble. An awards ceremony with prizes will be held immediately after. Cost is $150 per player or $500 per four-player team. Sponsorship levels run from presenting ($4,000) to hole sponsor ($1,000). • The Eighth Annual East Tennessee Technology Access Center/Mark French Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Monday, April 10, at Fox Den Country Club. Entry fee is $500 per team or $125 per player. Team play is four-person scramble. Prizes will include cars donated for a hole-in-one and first-, second- and third-place team prizes and technology door prizes (tentative). The tentative schedule begins with lunch from noon until 1 p.m., which includes golfing tips and putting contest with Des Mahoney.
