Bearden boys tennis is thinking big
Bulldogs sweep 4-AAA,BHS girls 3rd in district

Looking to recapture some of the program’s state championship magic of the late 1990s and early 2000s is the 2006 District 4-AAA regular season Bearden High School boys tennis team.

As for competing for a Class AAA state title, “We’ve got a chance,” BHS head coach Clint Cope said about his boys team, which swept 4-AAA with a 7-0 record, 10-1 overall. “There’s probably five teams in the state that have a chance.”

Hunter Maltsberger, No. 1 singles player, leads the way (10-1 singles record) followed by freshman Taylor Patrick at No. 2 singles (11-0). They form Bearden’s unbeaten No. 1 doubles tandem.

Rounding out the top six Bulldog singles are, in order, Chris Asker, Ben Rahnema, Ben Lanz and either Jacob Bollack or Bryan Alexander.

The BHS girls, who finished third in 4-AAA at 5-2 (5-4 overall) are led, in order, by Helen Fisun, Stephanie Sparr, Courtney Cox, Lorrin Howard, Shara Tonn and Lauren Harville.
