Blue-Gray scrimmage
Defense, backfield praised by Courtney; receiving a concern
Alan Sloan - Thu, May, 18, 2006
Farragut’s annual Blue and Gray spring football game left varsity head coach Eddie Courtney encouraged about several units — and concerned about one.
 |
Offensively “Michael Lawrence [rising senior quarterback] had a real good spring. Our fullbacks and tailbacks are very competitive ...,” Courtney said after the Tuesday, May 9 scrimmage to end spring practice.
“Defensively, we took up where we left off last year ... we feel we’ve built some depth there,” Courtney added. “We made some good improvement in the defensive line.
“Jonathan Morrison [transfer from Powell] has really helped us coming in there. Nick Guess and Adam Wigren, the only returning starter [nose guard].”
As for major concerns, “the wide receivers,” Courtney said. “We’ve got some kids capable of doing it, but somebody’s got to step up and take charge.”
Highlighting the only scoring drive in the first quarter involving all first-team players was a 25-yard pass from Blue quarterback Michael Lawrence to Chris Eggert.
Lawrence also had a 15-yard quarterback option run.
The Blue’s score came on a 2-yard run from rising sophomore Trevoris Bogan.
