Browning sold on Hiwassee

Hard work has paid off handsomely for B.J. Browning, former Farragut High School basketball standout wing, as the 6-foot-1, 18-year-old All-District 4-AAA sharpshooter signed with Hiwassee College, a NJCAA junior college in Madisonsville, during a signing ceremony Thursday, May 11, in the FHS Commons. “He’s a super kid, he’s worked so hard from his freshman year to his senior year to make himself a better basketball player,” said Donald Dodgen, FHS varsity boys basketball head coach. Hiwassee head coach Danny Green said, “We’re trying to recruit good people and good basketball players.” As for why he chose Hiwassee, “I went to an open house thing ... I got to looking around, and it just drawed me, like, this would be a good place to go,” Browning said. “It’s close to home, but far enough away to where I could get away a little bit. ... They made it feel like I was at home, the coaching staff.” Browning was Farragut’s top three-point and free-throw shooter the past two seasons. At the team’s banquet in early April, Browning was recognized as “Top Offensive Player.”
