Roach on to Tech

Kendale Roach, a two-time All-Region 2-AAA and All-District 4-AAA honoree while a three-year infield starter for the Bearden Bulldogs’ baseball team, signed National Letter of Intent papers with Tennessee Tech of Cookeville during a signing ceremony in the BHS East Mall Wednesday, May 10. “He has an extreme passion for the game,” BHS head coach Matt Buckner said of the standout senior second baseman. “He plays really hard. He loves baseball. He’s always into the game.” As the number three or four batter in the Bulldog lineup “the last three years,” Roach has surpassed 20 home runs and 100 RBIs during his career with hitting above .400, Buckner said. Roach, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound 18-year-old, also played for Team Tennessee during its Junior Sun Belt Series in Oklahoma last summer, and before that was a member of the Worth TBCA Super Sophomore Showcase team.

As for why he chose Tennessee Tech, “I just liked the atmosphere down there, I felt, like, at home,” Roach said. “Their whole team, they’re just one big happy family down there. I’m just ready to go there and play, and hopefully get some winning seasons. I’ll probably play second [base] or third down there. ... Right now I’m planning on going in and playing, I’m planning on starting — but that’s the coach’s decision. I’m going to do what I have to do to play.”
