SoccerDawgs survive, edge Oak Ridge 2-1

OAK RIDGE — The Bearden Bulldogs kept its season alive by beating Oak Ridge 2-1 Tuesday, May 16, in a Region 2-AAA semifinal at Katie Hunter Field.

Cesar Ruiz got the Bulldogs on the board first 12 minutes into the contest on a header off a corner kick from Khader Hamdallah.

Oak Ridge’s Diego Del Castillo tied the game on a free kick two minutes before halftime, giving the Bulldogs the wake-up call they needed.

“We didn’t play to our full potential,” Bearden senior Jay Lutz said. “We came out a little lackadaisical in the first half and on their goal we didn’t step to the ball and they got a quick shot and that almost cost us.”

The Bulldogs got the lead for good 18 minutes into the second half on a goal by junior Nathan Zivi. “I thought we played barely good enough to win, but at this point in the season that’s all that matters,” Bearden head coach Eric Turner said. “We were flat and they were pumped up but we were able to finish.”
