• The West Valley Middle School baseball team won the Knox County Middle School League Tournament and finished 13-1 in league play. They defeated Halls 8-5 in the tournament championship game played May 11. Players are Ian Cornman, Ty Green, Gabe Orndorf, Jeffrey Concannon, Jacob Stooksbury, Garrett Sale, Travis Scates, Chase Keen, Wade Lawhorn, Spencer Mackle, Nick Williams, Ethan Bennett, Bradley Spencer, Phillip Pfeifer, and A.J. Scalf. Coaches are John Lawhorn and Rodney Tabor.

• The town of Farragut will accept registrations for Coed and Senior Men’s softball teams to participate in the fall league beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, July 17, at Mayor Bob Leonard Park, 301 Watt Road. Participants in the Senior Men’s league must be 60 years of age or older. The leagues include seven regular season games and a single elimination post-season tournament. Deadline to register and pay is Thursday, July 27. Coed League play is each Tuesday from Aug. 8 to mid-October. Senior Men’s League is each Thursday from Aug. 10 to mid-October. Cost is $275 per team. Registration forms are available at Farragut Town Hall or by calling Jason Wright at 865-966-7057.

• Tommy Pharr, head coach of the Class AAA state champion Farragut High School Admirals baseball team, announces that team tryouts will be held beginning at 6 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 8-9. This is for any new players — incoming freshman or others not previously on the team. Freshman from last year who did not play varsity should be at tryouts. • Tryouts for the Farragut Middle School baseball team will be held beginning at 6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 14-15. This tryout is for new players and players returning from last year. For more information, call Jim Braden at 865-310-7766.

• Among the recent award winners following the conclusion of the 2006 CBFO Softball 13-to-18 year-old league tournament was Laura Summers, who was named Most Improved Player during the season.

• The U-17 KFC Force of Knoxville won the Division I girls state championship June 10-12 in Memphis. The team went 5-0 during the tourney, beating the Chattanooga Redoubt 4-0 in the semifinals before beating the defending state champion TNFC Blue of Franklin 2-0 in the championship game. During the course of the 2005-06 club season, the team was a semifinalist in the Orange Classic in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; compiled a 4-0 record during the Memphis College Showcase; won the Jefferson Cup in Richmond, Va. and won the Potomac Cup in Rockville, Md. Team members are Becca Dodson, Liz Blakely, Chloe Hickman, Melissa Morris, Mary Alex Rochester, Emily Harris, Alex Meehan, Kathleen Jarvis, Molly Kinsella, Courtney Hutchins, Courtney Brackins, Leah Bishop, Mandy Seiler, Laura Novikoff, Megan Kinsella, Laurel Shute, Taryn Polte and Chelsea Brooks. Head coach is Hans Hobson; assistant coach is Carrie Ollom.
