Doctors mark a decade of service


University Neurosurgery, P.C. physicians Dr. James Killeffer and Dr. Kent Sauter are now seeing patients to provide closer, more convenient care in West Knoxville. Their new office on the Parkwest Medical Center campus provides patients who would have had to drive to their Alcoa Highway office, the same level of care and expertise.

Dr. James Killeffer is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has practiced neurosurgery in Knoxville for nearly 10 years. A native to the area, Dr. Killeffer received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee.

He attended medical school at The University of Tennessee in Memphis and subsequently completed a general surgery internship at The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Killeffer completed his residency at West Virginia University where he also joined as an instructor in neurosurgery. He returned to Knoxville to join University Neurosurgery where he has been seeing patients in Knoxville for nearly 10 years on Alcoa Highway.

Dr. Kent L. Sauter, M.D. is also board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has practiced neurosurgery in Knoxville two years. He attended medical school at the University of South Alabama. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at West Virginia University Hospital.

For nearly 10 years, Dr. Sauter worked as an assistant professor of neurosurgery at University of South Alabama Department of Neurosurgery in Mobile. He taught with a primary focuses on spinal traum a where he enjoyed working with medical students and residents.

Dr. Sauter treats a broad spectrum of adult neurosurgical problems including brain, spine and peripheral nerve surgery. Special interests include minimally invasive techniques in brain and spinal surgery complex spinal surgery, radiosurgery and kyphoplasty.

Dr. Fred Killeffer, the senior neurosurgeon in the group, continues to practice on an outpatient consulting basis at the Alcoa Highway location.
