FHS’s Reveiz, Webb’s Ayres to receive ‘Athlete of Year’ awards

Nick Reveiz, a repeat state wrestling champion in 2006 as a Farragut High School senior and Mr. Football finalist after a standout 2005 season at linebacker, will be honored as “Male High School Athlete of the Year” in the Knoxville area during the 25th anniversary of the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame banquet tonight [Thursday, July 27] in Knoxville Convention Center.

Meanwhile, Meredith Ayres is a 13-time high school All-American and was named Tennessee Swimmer of the Year as a senior at Webb School in 2006. With such honors in hand, this soon-to-be Stanford University student was named “Female High School Athlete of the Year” with similar honors coming tonight.

REVEIZ

Reveiz was twice wrestling state champion in the Division I 215-pound class, plus an All-State linebacker with the Admirals.

This 5-foot-10, 225-pounder is on his way to the University of Tennessee as an invited walk-on hoping to be a second generation football Volunteer.

As an FHS senior wrestler, Reveiz went undefeated with 35 wins, 29 of those pins.

AYRES

Since age 9, Ayres has been bouncing out of bed at 5:30 a.m. to practice swimming. From the beginning, her parents took the position that they would support but not push.

Ayres became a year-round swimmer for Gardner Howland at Pilot Aquatic Club, practicing 25 hours per week.

At Webb, Ayres was a Wendy’s nominee for the High School Heisman. As a senior, she was state champion in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-freestyle, breaking the state 200-IM record that was once owned by the legendary Tracey Caulkins.
