Ragsdale earns medical degree


John Wilson Ragsdale IV of Knoxville received a doctor of medicine degree June 2 at the Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

He is the son of John and Becky Ragsdale of Farragut; grandson of the late Arthur and Nancy Petrey; and the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. John Ragsdale Jr. from the city of Fulton, Tenn.

Following graduation, he will complete a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Ragsdale graduated summa cum laude in 2001 from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., with a bachelor of science degree in biology. He received the presidentís award for his 3.9 GPA.

While at Jefferson, Ragsdale graduated cum laude and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honors Society and the Association of Pathology Chairs National Honor Society. He was awarded the Joseph Collins Foundation Scholarship and the Benjamin and Mary Siddons Measey Foundation Scholarship.

Ragsdale also participated in Jeff Hope, a student run clinic for the homeless and the Jeff Hope Kids Literary Program. He completed a four-week rotation at a charity hospital in India.
