Town presents Beautification Awards

Winners of Farragut’s 33rd annual Beautification Awards have been announced.

Mayor Ralph McGill presented each winner with a plaque during a Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Tuesday, June 9.

“When people do a great job at landscaping, they ought to be rewarded,” McGill said.

“We have a number of places that are spectacular every year,” he said. “I don’t think there’s any question that everybody considers this a beautiful town.”

While announcing the winners, Betty Scott, Farragut Beautification Committee chairwoman, talked about how the winners were chosen. Criteria FBC used in evaluating developments included landscape design, selection of plant material, maintenance, first impressions and last impressions.

The committee added a new award category for Hotel or Motel. Anthony Galloway, Hampton Inn & Suites assistant general manager, accepted the award on behalf of Hampton Inn & Suites, 11340 Campbell Lakes Drive.

Dr. Kristy Livenly accepted the Commercial or Office Building award for Village Veterinary, 11301 Kingston Pike. Amy Barnett, campus operations manager for First Baptist Church Concord, 11704 Kingston Pike, accepted the award for Religious Institution.

Clarity Pointe, 901 Concord Road, won for Multi-Family Residential Complex. Tom Overton, maintenance director, said Clarity Pointe has won three out of the last four years.

“I would have to attribute most of it to our landscapers,” he said.

The landscaping was a joint effort between the owners, landscaping contractor, Bright Side, and the Town. The landscapers used native plants.

“They’re tempered better to the area. They thrive in this kind of soil,” he said.

West End Center, West End Avenue, won for Retail Commer-cial Complex.

“I’m very appreciative of the town of Farragut for giving us the award,” Tommy Vann, West End Center co-owner, said.

“We just did a renovation and everything is new,” he said. Lockett Landscaping was his landscaper and the plants came from Kensey Gardens.

Cracker Barrel, 716 Campbell Station Road, won for Commer-cial/Retail Building.

Billy Pitou, general manager, said the site’s landscaping changes with the seasons.

“It gives a fresh look and a great appeal to our guests,” he said.

Derby Chase subdivision, Der-by Chase Boulevard, won an award for Residential Entrance.
