Lady Ads search for scoring

Dennis Lindsay is looking for a few clutch scorers.

The veteran FHS girls soccer head coach said he’s in dire need of scoring help for a 2006 Lady Admirals team now operating without All-state forward Jessie Stephens, having graduated in May.

“I believe that’s about twenty-five goals to fill,” Lindsay said about replacing Stephens. “Finishing, we’re going to have to find someone who can score goals. We may have to do it by committee.”

Lindsay said he fears having to break up a talented defense in order to shift players “up top” to add scoring punch.

“Coming into the season I look for it to be an average team at best, but their coming together pretty good. The chemistry is coming together, they’re hustling, they have a good attitude,” Lindsey said. “We do have some skill. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

At the heart of the 2006 Lady Ads are the team’s four seniors: Serena Allen, Sarah Fisher, Kathleen Jarvis and Emily Harris.

Allen would provide a huge defensive base of strength, being District 4-AAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 as a sweeper. But Lindsay said he may move her to forward “to find someone to score.”

Lindsay said Allen “is very fast, high energy level, anticipates the ball real well.”

Fisher, who Lindsay said was “probably the most improved player I’ve seen in a while,” adding she “may be the answer” at forward thanks to being “very fast. She is a talent if she keeps up the progress she’s shown so far.” Fisher’s other position will be outside-midfield.

The FHS skipper said Jarvis, the team’s starting center-midfielder, is a college prospect who is a “solid player ... she has a very good shot, she scored several goals last year. She distributes the ball real well, and she’s picked up speed. And she’s come in with the right attitude. She’s going to be real helpful this year.”

Harris, a fullback, “is another solid player, I think she’s one of the better ones around,” Lindsay said. “She’s another college prospect. Again, I may have to move her up because we lack scoring ability.”

Lindsay said that as a foursome, his 2006 seniors “are going to be real good leaders. That’s one reason I’m looking forward to this year, they’re pulling this team together, I think.”

Other top players in the mix to start are junior Morgan Plum (defense/midfield), sophomore Alyssa Dresen (defense), freshman Mary Cathryn Suhocki (defense), juniors Casey Ulrich (midfield), Shannon Schell (defense) and Meghan Satterfield (defense) and goalkeepers Megan Buzzeo, a sophomore, and junior Allison Bosse.

Ulrich, Schell and Buzzeo are each trying to recover from injuries. Lindsay said Ulrich and Schell will start.
