Lightning strikes ...
- Thu, Aug, 24, 2006
A “blown off” chimney, caused by a lightning strike during strong area thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20, partially crashed through the master bedroom ceiling of a Farragut two-story home while damaging the garage roof, said Douglas Eckard, Rural Metro Station No. 11 firefighter/paramedic. No one was home at the time of the strike, which occurred around 12:30 p.m., Eckard said. Owners Eddie and Carol Bales, Woodsmoke Circle, survey the damage alongside Rural Metro Station No. 11 firefighter A. C. Cummings. A blue tarp on the roof covers much of the damage. Eckard said the strike did not cause a fire but the collapsed chimney caused “severe damage” to the master bedroom, took out “about a ten by twelve side of the house” plus “a couple of holes it knocked in the garage, in the exterior of the roof.”
