F/WK Chamber reveals 5K run details at FBMA

The Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen made its annual contribution to the Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce 5K Run Committee during its Aug. 24 meeting.

Farragut Mayor W. Edward “Eddy” Ford III presented Bettye Sisco, Chamber president, a check for $10,000.

“A part of what the donation goes to is our continuing education program,” Sisco told the Board members. “I’m happy to say the program is growing.”

Jonathan Patrick, 5K committee chairman, told FBMA members the date for the run is set for Saturday, Sept. 23.

The run begins at 8 a.m. on Watt road near the Texaco station, travels north and turns on Sedgefield Drive, runs through the subdivision to Fleenor Road and travels through the south entrance of Mayor Bob Leonard Park. The race course finishes between the lower parking lot and the lower softball field.

Patrick said subdivision roads would be closed from 7:50 to 8:45 a.m. that day.

In other business, the town is seeking residents who are interested in being a volunteer member of the Leisure Services Master Plan Advisory Committee.

This committee requires a commitment to attend monthly meetings through December 2007 and a willingness to perform outside research. Town officials said they are hopeful the members of this committee would represent a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints, including planning, arts, historical, athletics, recreation and health and education.

The Leisure Services Master Plan Advisory Committee is expected to accomplish certain objectives, including reviewing current data from the Leisure Services Survey, census demographics, facility and program inventories, etc.; conducting a public hearing to invite community comments; completing a needs assessment and developing a Leisure Services Master Plan.

Sue Stuhl, Leisure Services director, said the goal is to have the master plan completed by December of next year. Those interested in the volunteer positions may call the town at 865-966-7057.

In other business, the Board:

• postponed consideration of an agreement with Jefferson Creek, LLC for Union Road reconstruction.

• set the 2007 Farragut election date as April 3. The seats held by Alderman Joel Garber and Alderman Dorothy “Dot” LaMarche will be up for

election.
