I would like to thank you for your e-mails and phone calls supporting a fully funded Hardin Valley High School for 2,100.

The Metropolitan Planning Commission suggests that our area will continue to grow over the next five years and enrollment will increase. Farragut, Karns and Bearden High School are currently more than 100

percent functional

capacity.

The Hardin Valley High School (2,100) is a critical component to our solution for overcrowding. In order to provide overcrowding relief at FHS and support the projected increase in enrollment, we will shift students from FHS to HVHS.

The plan for KHS is the same, as students will shift from KHS to HVHS.

The zone lines for Hardin Valley High School scheduled to open in August 2008 have not been set.

The School board will hold community meetings regarding the proposed zones and accept feedback regarding the proposed zones.

Karen Carson (School Board District 5) and I want to engage the community and start the process in early October.

We hope to officially announce the new zones in December. By announcing the new zones in December, we will provide more than 18 months notice to the parents and children affected by the zoning.

I plan to use this column to keep you informed on the issues facing our school system. I will update you as soon as I know more regarding HVHS and our zoning process.
