FHS wins two during annual Katie Hunter

It was a busy weekend for the Farragut Lady Admirals soccer team. Farragut played in the annual Katie Hunter Invitational, losing one game but winning their last two of the tournament.

The Lady Ads improved to 6-2 on the season entering the week, with another win, 2-0, coming against Webb Tuesday, Aug. 29, at FHS.

“We’ve got a little work cut out,” FHS head coach Dennis Lindsay said. “We’re going to have to improve a little to get to where we want to be at the end of the year. We’re doing O-K though.”

The Katie Hunter Invitational hosted 24 teams playing at Oak Ridge High School and three fields at the Cellular One Soccer Complex in West Knoxville. The teams played in three round robin games and the fourth was seeded by round robin points.

Friday, Farragut played St. Agnes, losing 4-0. St. Agnes out-shot the Lady Ads with an 11-3 shots-on-goal edge.

Saturday the Lady Ads came back to beat Graves County, Ky. 4-2. Casey Ulrich scored two goals for the Lady Ads, one with an assist from Ruth Cook. Whitney Newby scored unassisted and Lauren Ward scored with the assist going to Mindy Hopkins. Farragut posted 14 shots-on-goal to Graves County’s seven.

The Lady Ads also played Shelbyville Saturday night, posting a 5-0 shutout while holding SHS to one shot-on-goal.

A host of Lady Ads scored as Farragut tallied 14 shots on goal. Sarah Fisher, Audrey Minot, Ulrich, Hopkins and Lauren Krouse tallied one apiece. Alyssa Dresen made assisted on the Minot and Ulrich goals.

The Lady Ads were supposed to play Tate’s Creek, Ky Sunday, but the Bluegrass opponent left the tournament early. Lindsay believes it was due to the late start of the game.

Farragut had to switch out their keepers throughout the tournament due to a couple of injuries. Allison Bosse was injured during the Webb game and was not cleared by the doctors to play.

Megan Buzzeo started Friday, but was injured during the game against St. Agnes. Buzzeo was able to finish the game and should be OK for Wednesday’s game against Oak Ridge (after press deadline).

Cathryn Dake, a forward, played keeper for the Lady Ads on Saturday. Dake had experience playing keeper from last year.

“Our defense stood out because both our keepers were out and we held them pretty tight,” Lindsay said. “We never were in danger in the Graves County game.”

Against Webb, Dresen scored both goals unassisted. Farragut posted 10 shots on goal.
