School view
Thomas Deakins - Thu, Sep, 21, 2006
My column this week will focus on three areas: re-zoning meetings, safety and awards/congratulations.
I have received more than 200 e-mails and letters regarding the possible re-zoning of Farragut High School to Hardin Valley High School. I assure you that I understand your concern and frustration over this issue.
As I reported two weeks ago, we have scheduled community meetings to discuss the re-zoning issue.
Meetings
• Monday, Oct. 9, 6 p.m., at Bearden High School
• Tuesday, Oct. 10, 6 p.m., at Farragut High School
• Thursday, Oct. 12, 6 p.m., at Karns High School
Safety
If you are driving through a school zone or on a school campus, please obey the speed limit and be alert. Our students and staff are our number one priority and we need to make sure they remain safe.
Awards
• The Wal-Mart Tennessee Teacher of the Year Award was presented to our own Cheryl Mashburn, third-grade teacher at Farragut Intermediate School. Congratulations to Mrs. Mashburn!
I want to thank Mrs. Mashburn for her dedication and commitment to our children.
• Congratulations to FHS students Sarah Brand and Umang Shukla for their Perfect Scores (36) on the ACT.
Fund-raising
The School Coupon books go on sale on Sept. 21.
