• Jenae Ashley Grossart received a B.S. in business administration from Kansas State University in Summer 2006.

• Jacqueline Woodson, children’s book author, will speak to students and staff at West Valley Middle School, Wednesday, Sep. 20 at 1:30 p.m. Woodson has received many awards such as the Newbery Medal, Caldecott Medal and the Coretta Scott King Book Award. The Center for Children’s and Young Adult Books at UT is sponsoring her trip.

• The Farragut High School PTSO and the Jr. Optimist Club will host a fun evening of playing Bunko. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., in the FHS commons area. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students ages 12-18. Snacks, desserts and refreshments will be provided. Door prizes will also be offered including a free cruise to the Bahamas. Make a reservation by calling 865-966-8312 or send an e-mail to optimists06@yahoo.com by Sep. 25.

• The Bearden High School PTSO will hold fund-raiser dinner in the BHS cafeteria Wednesday, Sep. 27. Carraba’s will prepare the meal to include chicken marsala, penne pomodora, Caesar salad, bread and a choice of beverage. Two dinners will be offered, one at 5 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. Tickets are available in the West Mall BHS office or at the door. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and BHS staff. A performance of Annual Skits will begin at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will support BHS school projects.

• The Knox County Board of Education will conduct an executive session with the board attorney to discuss litigation at 4:30 p.m., Monday Sep. 18. The executive session will be followed by a work session in the first floor Board Room of the Andrew Johnson Building located at 912 South Gay St.

• West Valley Middle School PTSA will present the second Parent Training Session today, Thursday, Sep. 21. The PTSA meeting will be followed by a discussion led by representatives from Justwait, a division of Hope Resource Center. The first session will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m. and a second session will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The sessions will be held in the Lecture Hall of West Valley Middle School.
