VolleyDogs maintain winning 4-AAA record `with wins versus Lenoir City, WB Lady Govs

With the volleyball season winding down, the Bearden VolleyDogs are hoping to come alive down the final stretch.

Bearden was 2-2 on the week with wins over Lenoir City and William Blunt Tuesday, Sept. 19, but losses to Maryville and Heritage Thursday, Sept. 21, ended the week on a sour note.

“We did pretty well Tuesday and then we played fairly well Thursday, but lost two,” Bearden head coach Jennifer Allen said.

Against Heritage Rachel Menhinick had 11 points, 15 digs, six kills and three aces while Brittany Basham had 12 points, 23 assists and three aces. Despite being up two games to none, the VolleyDogs couldn’t capitalize.

Against MHS, the Lady Rebels were in control most of the match. Natalie Birdsall had 10 points, seven kills and three aces while Bryanna Rittenhouse had 12 points, three kills and three blocks.

“I thought that Rachel Menhinick stepped up her passing and defense really well and Brittany Basham played a little better on Thursday,” Allen said.

With an overall record of 21-12 entering the week, the VolleyDogs were 7-5 in District 4-AAA action.
