Lady Ads win tourney, fall to ORHS

KINGSPORT — Dennis Lindsay said it was “more bitter than sweet” after his Farragut Lady Admirals lost to Oak Ridge for second time this season despite winning the Kingsport Invitational both teams were a part of last weekend.

But the Lady Ads picked up the pace offensively in winning three of four games at Dobyns-Bennett High, led by converted junior forward Casey Ulrich who is just back from a serious knee injury.

“She’s coming around, she’s looking better now, she had a torn A-C-L,” coach Lindsay said, as Ulrich’s highlight was a hat trick in a 9-0 rout of Elizabethton Saturday morning, Sept. 30. “She’s coming into her own. She’s going to be a threat to deal with the rest of the season. She’s getting her touch back.

“She’s going to have to be our answer offensively.”

Two goals came from Rachel Hill, while Alyssa Dresen, Whitney Newby, Emily Harris and C.J. Dake also scored for FHS, whose record stood at 12-4 overall entering the week (6-0, including forfeits, and on top in District 4-AAA).

Newby led in assists with two, while Harris, Ruth Cook and Lauren Ward also assisted. Farragut had a 23-1 edge in shots-on-goal.

The Lady Admirals began the tourney with a 4-0 win against Sweetwater Friday, Sept. 29, as Ulrich, Dake, Cook and J.J. Johnson each tallied goals. Dresen and Kathleen Jarvis assisted.

Later Saturday, Farragut slipped past host Dobyns-Bennett 2-0, as Ulrich and Mindy Hopkins scored. Jarvis assisted.

Against ORHS Sunday, Farragut broke a scoreless first half with a goal from Dresen, assisted by Morgan Plumb. But the Lady Wildcats tallied twice in the last 20 minutes to win.
