Roach wins state golf

Webb senior Wes Roach fired a 36-hole total of 139 to win the Division II golf state championship at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro last week.

“He's certainly got talent, but I don't know if I've ever had a kid work harder than he did,” Spartan head coach David Youngblood said of Roach, 17, a Duke commitment who beat runner-up Harris English of Baylor by two shots. “On the golf course, right now, I don't know if there is anything he can't do.”

Webb’s Grant Milner (148), also earned All-state honors (eight), as did Leigh Henderson (sixth, 155).
