FHS 70-match 4-AAA win streak over

A District 4-AAA volleyball-winning streak dating back to 2002 ended Wednesday, Oct. 11, for the FHS volleyball team.

The Farragut Lady Admirals (45-9 record entering Region 2-AAA play Tuesday Oct. 17, which was after press deadline) lost to the Maryville Lady Rebels in four games, ending a 70-match 4-AAA winning streak, during the District 4-AAA Tournament finals Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Sevier County High School.

“Maryville really out-played us the first two games, but we got ourselves back in it and showed a lot of competitiveness,” said FHS head coach David Moore, whose Lady Ads played Karns Tuesday in a must-win game to advance to sub-state play tonight.

Victories against KHS in the region semis then versus the Maryville-Clinton winner in the finals, both at MHS, would earn Farragut a sub-state home game.

Senior outside hitter Kelsey Benorden, named district player of the year during the regular season, was one of three FHS All-tourney honorees, joining middle hitter Amanda Mitchell and setter Eden Watts.

“And I thought Lindsey West [FHS setter] had a good night also,” Moore said.

Mitchell, voted Best Blocker in the district, joined Benorden, Watts, West and Kayleigh Zavadil on the regular season All-District first team.
