Lady Govs end ‘great year’ for BHS VolleyDogs
Chris Murray - Thu, Oct, 19, 2006
After a solid season, an upset loss to William Blount in the quarterfinals match of the District 4-AAA girls volleyball tournament ends the Bearden VolleyDogs’ season.
The No. 4-seed VolleyDogs entered the match Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Sevier County High School the favorite against No. 5-seed William Blount, but lost in three games, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.
The loss puts an end to an otherwise “great year” for BHS, finishing with a 28-13 overall record.
“It was a tough way to go out but that’s what tournament play is any given night, and we didn’t step up to play,” BHS head coach Jennifer Allen said. “I thought we had a great year, we won twenty-eight matches. That’s a lot more than a lot of teams won and anytime you have won close to thirty matches you have had a real successful year.”
Bearden VolleyDog All-District 4-AAA regular season honorees were Lindsay Granger, Rachel Menhinick and Caroline Winstel.
