FHS sloshes past Bearden for 4-AAA crown; rematch tonight?

Coming into the District 4-AAA Championship game between the Farragut Lady Admirals and the Bearden Lady SoccerDawgs, both teams knew it would be a challenge.

It was not only a challenge because of the intense rivalry between the two teams, but because of the rain-soaked Bill Clabo Field at FHS. The whole complexion of the game was changed.

The Lady Ads (17-4 overall record entering the week) pushed through the muck and came out on top with a 2-1 victory Thursday, Oct. 19.

“This was a mud bowl so all I can say is we played hard,” Farragut head coach Dennis Lindsey said.

With Region 2-AAA semifinal wins Tuesday, Oct. 24 (after deadline), Bearden and FHS would meet again in the region finals tonight at FHS. The Lady Ads hosted Oak Ridge and BHS traveled to West Tuesday. Each region semifinal winner is assured a sectional birth Saturday, Oct. 28, while the losers’ seasons are over.

Farragut took the 1-0 lead in the 15th minute after Whitney Newby headed it past Bearden keeper Sarah Canter. Morgan Plum got the assist.

Bearden (16-2-2) answered in the 48th minute on a direct kick by Amanda Barton. “Evidently I’m not doing what I need to do to get these girls ready to play this game,” BHS head coach Eric Turner said. “Farragut was better again and they deserved to win it. ...” Both Bearden losses this season are against FHS.

With 18:40 left, Farragut junior Casey Ulrich scored what proved to be the game winning goal after a Plum corner kick. “It’s really exciting, we always end up playing Bearden twice in the season and we normally win one and lose one, so this really means a lot,” Ulrich said.
